Visiting Our Office
Dr. Hsu is committed to treating the whole patient, not just the symptoms. Her unique breed of comprehensive care begins the moment you walk through the door.
When you arrive at ProHealth Smiles, you’ll be greeted by a host of friendly faces, ready to help. Dr. Hsu and her staff pride themselves on their close relationships with each client. They’ve been working together for more than a decade, and when a new patient joins the practice, it’s like they’re becoming part of the family.
An expert in general dentistry, Dr. Hsu also specializes in sleep medicine, treatments for TMJ, and childhood orthodontic care. This important variety of specialties is part of her lifetime commitment to education.
She keeps up to date with developments in the fields of dentistry and sleep medicine, always working hard to better understand the complex connections between the mouth and the rest of the body. Her treatments not only relieves symptoms, but they address the underlying causes, accounting for the different ways in which separate parts of the body work together.
In addition to the warmth of Dr. Hsu and her staff, as well as her comprehensive expertise, you’ll find her newly-renovated office features the latest in diagnostic technology, from digital x-rays to 3D cone beam imaging. ProHealth Smiles is designed to keep every patient comfortable and confident in their care, from start to finish.
My path to dentistry was an interesting one. I was originally an architecture student at the University of Illinois, but I felt there was something missing. My friend was very interested in dentistry, so I took the admissions test with her, mostly out of curiosity. I did surprisingly well on the test, and was admitted into the dental school the following semester. Immediately, I knew things were on the right track. Architecture is the study of structure and aesthetic, but it lacks the daily personal interactions that really energize me. I’m not a paper person; I’m a people person.
After only two years in dental school I received my bachelor’s degree in dental science. Because I’d managed to graduate so early, I went in search of more hands-on experience. I continued my education at UCSF, where I received my Advanced Education General Dentistry residency. After that, I went into practice to help people.
The opportunity to open my own private practice in Hollister presented itself in 2008, when a local dentist was looking to sell his second office, opting to focus on running one practice instead of two. I’m originally from California, and I’d seen my fair share of big cities, so it seemed like a natural fit. I still work with members of the team who’ve been in this location since the beginning. Over the years, we’ve become like a family, and our patients are included in that. I spend a great deal of time interacting with patients. I love talking with them, getting to know them, and building lifelong relationships. Hollister is a great town for that. It’s small enough that you start to feel like you know everyone, but big enough to keep me busy!
I’m not a paper person. I’m a people person.
I’m still an eager student after all these years. I believe the health of the teeth and mouth is closely tied to the health of the entire body, so there’s always more to study. In addition to general dentistry, I was a fellow at the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and I completed a Dental Sleep Medicine residency at UCLA. I specialize in early childhood orthodontic treatment and airway expansion, offering treatments that can help children sleep better, focus more, and maintain a happier, healthier smile. I love working with adults and children alike, and I can’t wait to meet you and the family!
PERSONAL INTERESTS
I am addicted to learning! I’ve been an eager student my whole life, and that didn’t slow when I opened my private practice. Right now, I’m learning about acupuncture, as I’ve always been interested in the complex relationships between different parts of the body. I believe understanding those can help people live healthier, happier lives. I also love to travel whenever I can. I have two kids and a busy schedule, so whenever we can pack things up and go see the world, I’m thrilled.
Dr. Wennifred Hsu is committed to a lifetime of learning. She studied architecture at the University of Illinois before entering the dental school there and earning her bachelor’s in dental science. She graduated two years ahead of her class, due to her fierce academic life in high school, and then went on to the University of California, San Francisco for her Advanced Education General Dentistry residency.
She’s now a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the International Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and the California Dental Association, among others. She is a fellow at the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and has completed a Dental Sleep Medicine Residency at UCLA. In her free time, she’s studying acupuncture to better learn about the connectivity of the body. As she puts it, “I’m always taking one class or another.”
